Course(s) Offered: Social sciences, Humanities
Course Level: Research fellowship
Provider: IIAS, ASC
Country to Study in: Netherlands
Scholarship Description: The African Studies Centre in Leiden, together with the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS), invite applications for the
ASC-IIAS Joint Fellowship Programme from outstanding researchers from countries around the globe.
The ASC-IIAS Fellowship (African-Asian relations) is intended for scholars in the field of African-Asian relations. IIAS distinguishes between ‘research fellows’, and ‘affiliated fellows’. While research fellows are researchers attached to one of IIAS’s research programmes, affiliated fellows spend a limited period at IIAS to work on their own research project.
This call for application is for a position as affiliated fellow under the ASC-IIAS Fellowship at IIAS.
Eligibility: The ASC-IIAS fellowship is intended for researchers specialising in Asian-African interactions.
Candidates should have a PhD.
Eligible groups: Citizens of ANY country
Participating Institutions
International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS); AND
The African Studies Centre in Leiden (ASC)
Fields of study: This fellowship supports research in the area of Asian-African interactions.
It aims to attract researchers whose work is informed by current theoretical debates in the social sciences and humanities over global connectivities and who are able to critically engage with shifting paradigms in “area studies” beyond the ways in which these have traditionally been conceived in the West.
IIAS is particularly interested in receiving fellowship proposals that go beyond a mere analysis of current issues associated with African-Asian comparative economic developments or Chinese investments in Africa — although none of these themes, if appraised critically and for their societal consequences, will of course be excluded. IIAS definition of Asia and Africa is broad and inclusive, Asia ranging from the Middle-East to the Pacific Coast, and Africa from North-Africa to the southern tip of the continent.
