Right Livelihood Award 2018
Last Date: 1 March 2018.
The Right Livelihood Award Foundation, invites nominations for the 2018 Right Livelihood Award, which seeks to “honour and support courageous people and organisations offering visionary and exemplary solutions to the root causes of global problems”. The Award, also popularly known as the ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’, is usually shared by 4 laureates, who will receive their prizes at a ceremony in the Swedish Parliament in Stockholm. This is not an award for the world’s political, scientific or economic elite; rather, it is an award for the people and their work and struggles for a better future. The Laureates can come from all walks of life – farmers, teachers, doctors, or simply, concerned citizens.
The total prize money of SEK 3 million (2017) is usually shared among 4 winners but not always all Laureates receive a cash award. Often an Honorary Award is given to a person or group whose work the Jury wishes to recognise but who is not in need of monetary support. The Cash Awards are intended for work in progress or the extension of existing activities and not for personal use.
All concerned citizens or organisations striving to meet the human challenges of today’s world are eligible for nomination.
Anyone – except Right Livelihood Award Jury and staff members – can nominate anyone , except themselves, close relatives or their own organisations, to be considered for a Right Livelihood Award.
Nominations are to be submitted via email and hardcopy by post by 1 March 2018.
