Fully funded Facebook Community Leadership Program Residency and Fellowship 2018

Applications are open for Facebook Residency and Fellowship for Community Leaders 2018. The residency and fellowship are designed to offer training, support, and funding to help enable extraordinary leaders advance a specific community initiative. They accept applicants who are building community using a product or service within the Facebook family of apps and services including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Oculus and Facebook connectivity efforts (Free Basics or Express Wi-Fi).
The residency and fellowship is part of the Facebook Community Leadership Program – a place for leaders who are building community and connection through the Facebook family of apps and services. The Facebook Community Leadership Program exists to empower and support leaders from around the world who have built meaningful communities through the Facebook family of apps and services.
Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. An important part of this is supporting the leaders who foster community—people who offer support, build bridges and make change. They believe society thrives as a result of their work.
Residency for Community Leaders
Up to five community leaders with the boldest, highest impact ideas will be selected from around the world as community leaders in residence with a grant of up to $1,000,000 USD each to fund their proposal.
- A grant of up to $1,000,000 USD to be used for a specific community initiative
- Customized leadership development
- Opportunity to be in residence collaborating with Facebook teams
- Support to execute your grant proposal and resources to help with technical issues
Time Commitment
- One week five times a year spent in residence at Facebook on development and collaboration
- As much time as needed outside of the residency to bring to life the community initiative our grant is funding
Fellowship for Community Leaders
Up to 100 global community leaders will be selected for our fellowship program and will receive a grant of up to $50,000 USD each to be used for a specific community initiative. Applications are now open and you’re invited to apply.
- A grant of up to $50,000 USD to be used for a specific community initiative within a one-year time frame
- An educational curriculum designed around leadership development and access to subject matter experts
- Four in-person gatherings with networking opportunities to build community among fellows
- Support to execute your grant proposal and resources to help with technical issues
Time Commitment
- In-person attendance and full participation at four multi-day gatherings hosted by Facebook
- A few hours a month on additional trainings and virtual meet-ups
- As much time as needed to bring to life the community initiative our grant is funding
Benefits
Facebook will cover travel, lodging and meal costs for program participants attending in-person gatherings related to the residency or fellowship.
Eligibility
- They accept applications globally from countries where Facebook can legally operate and where they can legally make payments.
- Applicants must utilize a product or service within the Facebook family of apps and services for the purpose of building community. This includes but is not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Oculus and Facebook connectivity efforts (Free Basics or Express Wi-Fi).
- Applicants must comply with all applicable terms and policies governing the use of our apps and services, and the communities they represent must be in good standing and engaged in activities and discussions that are anchored on positive impact, rather than demeaning other people, groups, or points of view.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in their local country, whichever is higher.
- Because use of our products is essential to program participation, only applicants from regions and countries where Facebook can legally operate are eligible.
- Given that people selected to participate in the program will receive funding, only applicants from countries where Facebook can legally make payments are eligible.
- Applicants leading communities focused on and/or use of program funds for the following activities are ineligible:
- Proselytizing
- Political campaign activities (e.g. on behalf of an active candidate for elected office)
- Political lobbying activities (e.g. a 501(c)4 entity in the US)
Criteria
- They are looking for leaders who are inclusive and demonstrate the ability to bridge differences.
- They are looking for leaders who work to bring people together in person, in addition to online, as a way of strengthening community.
- They are looking for leaders with a proven track record of community building in the following areas: health, civic engagement, community resilience, parenting, faith, education or community issues.
Grant Proposal Guideline
You are welcome to submit any proposal for the most impactful use of grant funds to build your community. However, we do have a few guidelines:
- If selected, you’ll need to provide a specific plan and itemized budget for how you would use the grant to advance your impact within a one-year time frame.
- Grants can only be paid to individual residents and fellows, and must be used in support of the grant proposal.
- Grants may not be used for the following activities:
- Proselytizing
- Political campaign activities (e.g. on behalf of an active candidate for elected office)
- Political lobbying activities (e.g. a 501(c)4 entity in the US)
Application
Only individuals may apply on behalf of themselves. Applicants do not need to be associated with a legal entity.
