Internships with the UN Global Compact
The UN Global Compact is inviting applications for internships for Summer 2018 at its New York office. Internships with the UN Global Compact are available for a duration of 3 to 6 months. The timing of internships is flexible. Annually there are 2 sessions:
- Summer / Fall: August to November (with a possible extension to December)
- Winter / Spring: January to May (with a possible extension to June)
The duties of the UN Global Compact interns include: researching on the topic of corporate citizenship, especially on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption; drafting and editing documents; liaising with Global Compact stakeholders on key corporate citizenship topics; supporting the organization of meetings and events; assisting with outreach activities and in the implementation of the Global Compact’s integrity measures and handling email and other inquiries.
Applicants have to state in their application cover letters the team(s) they have a preference for. Global Impact teams are as follows:
- Communications & Media
- Global Compact LEAD
- Local Networks
- Reporting Team
- Issue Teams: Human rights, Labour, Environment, Anti-corruption, Business for Peace, Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, Indigenous Peoples’ Rights, Persons with Disabilities, Supply Chain Sustainability, and Principles for Responsible Management Education.
Benefits
Interns are not remunerated. Interns must therefore be able to cover their costs of travel, accommodation, as well as living expenses during the internship period.
Eligibility
Applicants must be enrolled in a Masters or in a PhD programme, or are in the final year of a Bachelors programme. Those who have graduated within a year from a Bachelors, Masters or PhD programme are also eligible. They need to have excellent command of English or French. Children or siblings of UN Secretariat staff members are not eligible.

Applicants are to state in their application cover letter the specific teams within Global Impact that they have a preference for. Examples of these teams are: Global Impact LEAD, Communications & Media, Human Rights, Business for Peace, Environment and Indigenous Peoples’ Rights. Applications for the Summer 2018 internship session from August to November 2018 are to be done online by 30 April 2018.
